The hospital maintains a strong academic affiliation with SUNY Downstate Medical Center in order to maintain its high standards of healthcare delivery.

Kings County is located in the East Flatbush/Prospect-Lefferts section of Brooklyn, close to the 2 and 5 subways. Our patients are diverse, with the majority being afro-Caribbean. Most of our patients are native English speakers. Knowledge of French/Haitian Creole is helpful, but not required.


The attending psychiatrist provides consultation and liase with the medical/surgical team for care of the patients who come in with behavioral issues and including safety and quality.

Direct Patient Care

  1. Provide direct care for a specific number of patients on consultation including appropriate and timely documentation.
  2. See all patients for STAT consults within 2 hours and routine within 24 hrs and re-assess patients in a timely fashion. Document assessment and reassessment in progress notes consistent with policy. Work with the SW of the
  3. Ensure appropriate use of de-escalation, including appropriately and timely use of restrictive interventions, as per policy, to ensure patient safety.
  4. Liasion with medical/Surgical team and provide support as needed to manage the behavioral problems.
  5. Ensure the patients for transfer to inpatient psychiatry have appropriate legal status and SBAR given before transfer.
  6. Participates in team meeting for complex patients including readmission patients who have psycho social and behavioral issues.

Performance Improvement, Quality Assurance and Risk Management

  1. Participate in Performance, Quality Assurance and Clinical pertinence activities if needed
  2. Maintains focus on key strategic priorities including patient experience, access to care, increased market share, and improving financial stability

Regulatory Activities

  1. Assist in the preparation for JC /DOH surveys if needed
  2. Maintain awareness of the standards for certification by the various regulatory agencies
  • MD or D.O from an accredited school of medicine
  • Completed Residency training in an accredited program in Psychiatry
  • Board Certified/eligible in Psychiatry
  • Proof of Covid-19 vaccination is required prior to hire
